The Korean War

The Korean War was fought to control the quickly expanding communism. After WWII in June, 1950, North Korea aided by communist nations like the Soviet Union and China, attacked Southern Korea crossing the 38th parallel, the latitude of the line across central Korea. North Korea, now a communist country, was under the rule of Kim Il Sung. South Korea was not a communist country and Syngman Rhee was their leader. North Korea wanted to control them and turn them into another communist country. North Korea had a power army with Russian war technology which South Korea did not have. Their army was unprepared for a war so the United Nations quickly sprung into action to prevent WWIII and to prove that they were willing to fight communism. America sent in troops to push back North Korea's army out of South Korea. Truman ordered url.jpegDouglas MacArthur (the commanding general in South Korea and a WWII veteran) to only push back North Korea out of South Korea. MacArthur had North Korea on the run so he assumed he could continue into
North Korea with his army but soon China got involved and the war turned on MacArthur and the power of communism fought back down to the 38th parallel. Truman was furious because he now had made enemies with not only the Soviet Union but with China as well. He relieved MacArthur of his war duties.
